COPING WITH STRESS

There's a never ending cause to stress - school, work, an argument, friends and sometimes unknowingly, you're causing yourself stress by over thinking. Stress is actually a crucial topic that is sometimes overlooked. Have you ever felt drained after a day? That’s actually a result of stress on your body, physically, mentally and emotionally.

1. Take a break

This method mainly applies to work or school. When you're feeling overwhelmed with workload, you'll most definitely be stressed especially if you continue pushing yourself. Times like this, it would be best to take a break even just a 5 mins break to grab a cup of water. By doing so, you'll be able to start again with a fresher mind.

2. Venting your emotions

It is always best to have a way to vent out your emotions. There are multiple ways to do so, talking to someone close, writing down a journal/diary or talking to a counselor. Trust me, those options are better than having to go through it alone and keeping all your emotions in. Why? You're gonna end up breaking down which is not healthy emotionally and mentally. Below are some mental health help lines in Singapore.

3. Take care of yourself

Neglecting yourself can also result in stress. There are multiple things u can do such as exercising, going out for a walk, avoiding excessive amounts of coffee or even having a well balanced diet. It's actually similar to taking a break to focus on yourself.

4. Laugh

Laughter is literally the best remedy. I get that sometimes when you're stressed about a task, you become determined to finish it. Take a step back and spend time with the people you love like your friends and family. Those joyful moments are what keeps u going. It doesn't have to take a whole day and u don't even have to go out. Even watching an episode of a k-drama together would suffice.

5. Avoid unhealthy habits

At times, stress makes us resort to unhealthy ways of relief such as alcohol and other unhealthy substances. But the thing is, these methods will come back to haunt us in the future in terms of our health. Furthermore, it doesn't solve whatever is currently happening. Once the effect is gone, you're back to feeling stress. Safe to say, it is not even a form of stress relief.

Bonus:

One thing that has been helping me get through stressful / tough times is that this is only temporary, what we are feeling right now will not stay with you forever. We will get through it and become a stronger version of ourselves. Having something to look forward to also helps with this mindset. Even if it’s just being excited to reward yourself an episode on Netflix or hanging out with friends or anything that makes you happy.

You could even get advice or rant to us and we’ll always be there for you guys and try our best to help within our means. If you’re gonna try any of these methods, feel free to tag us or update us on it. We’re on this journey together and always be proud of yourself for making it this far.
